Meet JOËL Cintron

A Hartford-based multidisciplinary creative passionate about storytelling, community, and education.
JOËL Cintron is a photographer, videographer, writer, and teaching artist whose work centers on visual storytelling, cultural identity, and meaningful connections. With experience in creative direction, project management, and content creation, he brings a collaborative and thoughtful approach to every project.
His creative journey began while studying abroad in France through the University of Connecticut in 2011. He later returned to France in 2015 to teach English through the TAPIF program, further developing his passion for storytelling, education, and cross-cultural connections.
JOËL holds a Bachelor's degree in International Relations from the University of Connecticut and a Master's degree in Organizational Leadership from Goodwin University. In 2023, he joined the second cohort of the Artist of Color Accelerator Program, where he collaborated with TheaterWorks Hartford to curate Siempre Pa'lante, an exhibition celebrating Puerto Rican identity and culture.
In addition to his creative practice, JOËL serves as an Adjunct Professor of Digital Photography at CT State Tunxis and a Teaching Artist for the SNAP! Photography Teen Residency at the Amistad Center for Art & Culture. His work as an educator and curator reflects his commitment to empowering emerging artists and amplifying underrepresented voices.
Currently, JOËL is also a featured artist in ¡Batey Boricua! at the Wadsworth Atheneum, now running until February 7, 2027.
His clients and collaborators include the Connecticut Office of the Arts, Greater Hartford Arts Council, Wesleyan University, TheaterWorks Hartford, and Connecticut Public.
Currently, JOËL is developing CAPICÚ, an award-winning short screenplay he wrote and will direct. Set in Hartford, the film explores Puerto Rican identity, family, inheritance, and manhood through a high-stakes game of dominoes, continuing his commitment to telling culturally rooted stories that resonate beyond his community.
